Story
A grieving therapist begins to tell his clients exactly what he thinks
By ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives, including his own. The cast of “Shrinking” share their best defining moments from Season 1 and reveal who has the best Harrison Ford impression.
In the end, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him the role
When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence asked how they got Harrison Ford to join the show, Segel said that Goldstein initially wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and was prepared to audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least pitch it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that the project was being pitched to Harrison Ford, sparking interest from other notable actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince her, but he was elated nonetheless. I’ve watched the first two episodes and found them engaging.
I also respect the way it’s presented—he’s not doing something that other therapists have to do, and that’s pretty clear
Part of the reason is that I found there to be something grounded in reality about a therapist who needs therapy and wants to break out in front of his patients to unexpectedly unravel their problems. It doesn’t get into the silly situations other shows like Loot have, but it’s still early in the series, and I’ll keep watching it.
The show isn’t for everyone
That said, I enjoy the depth of the characters, which don’t feel like caricatures; these are people I’m interested in getting to know.
